You can walk on freshly poured concrete after about 24 to 48 hours. For vehicle traffic, wait at least 7 days. Full structural strength is reached around 28 days. We'll walk you through the timeline specific to your project before we finish up.

For most residential driveways and slabs in Hamilton County TN, a permit is not required. Permits are typically needed for foundations and some larger commercial work. If your project is in an HOA or inside city limits, there may be additional requirements. We handle the permit research as part of your project so you don't have to figure it out on your own.

Concrete costs more upfront but lasts 30 to 50 years with minimal maintenance. Asphalt is cheaper to install but needs sealing every few years and typically lasts 20 to 30 years. In the southern heat, concrete holds up better and doesn't soften. For most homeowners who plan to stay long-term, concrete is the better investment.

A standard residential driveway should be at least 4 inches thick. If you park heavy trucks or equipment on it, 5 to 6 inches is recommended. Garage slabs are typically 4 inches. Shop floors and equipment pads handling heavy loads are usually 5 to 6 inches with added reinforcement. We size the pour to match your actual use case.

We can pour in cooler temperatures with the right precautions, but we won't pour when temps are expected to drop below 32 degrees within the first 24 hours of placement. Cold concrete cures slower and can be damaged by a hard freeze before it sets. We'll schedule your project around the weather and give you a heads up if conditions require a delay.
